The Northern Australian Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) welcomes the start of construction work on the $250m Charles Darwin University (CDU) Education and Community Precinct in Darwin.
The Education and Community Precinct will be a centrepiece of the revitalisation of the CBD through the Darwin City Deal. NAIF has approved a loan of up to $151.5m towards the overall project.
Local business DTA Contractors have this week began work on the precinct after winning the contract for site works and main building excavation.
The project will create 350 on-site jobs and a further 380 jobs across the supply chain through to 2024 when construction is expected to be completed.
The precinct once built is expected to deliver state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, an art gallery and a library.
NAIF CEO Chris Wade welcomed the start of the CDU construction.
“NAIF was an early supporter of CDU’s exciting plans and we are delighted that construction is now underway for what we hope will be a transformational project for Darwin and the Territory. We look forward to following the progress of construction.”
